Another minor earthquake hits Ranau

PETALING JAYA:
Another minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 hit Ranau, Sabah, at 3.16pm today, according to the meteorological department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia said the epicentre of the earthquake was at 6°N, 116.6°E with a depth of 4km and 11km west of Ranau.

“Tremors were felt in and around Ranau,” it said in a post on X.

On Dec 16, a 2.8 magnitude earthquake struck Ranau at 2.56pm but no tsunami threats were detected.

MetMalaysia had then said the earthquake occurred 15km south of Ranau, with tremors felt in the surrounding areas.

Prior to that, a 2.7 magnitude earthquake hit Tawau, Sabah on Dec 5.
