PETALING JAYA:
Three more bodies have been found from the site of the 2.58am landslide tragedy in Kampung Lereng Bukit in Miri, taking the total number of fatalities to four, so far.

A spokesman for the Sarawak fire and rescue department’s operations centre said the three victims were found at 10.53am, 11.38am and 11.48am, respectively. All three victims were pronounced dead by health ministry officers at the site, Bernama reported.

Earlier, the body of a 17-year-old boy was retrieved at 6.17am following the landslide, which affected two houses.

At the time, the spokesman said four victims were still missing, comprising two women aged 71 and 41, as well as two girls aged eight and 12.

The spokesman said a backhoe was deployed at 8.30am to assist in excavation and clearing efforts, as the search continues for the one remaining victim from the rubble.

He added that a man was rescued unharmed soon after the department started the search for survivors and that seven other occupants of the two houses managed to escape to safety when the landslide occurred.
