Brickfields district police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said a report was lodged by a witness following the incident last night.
“The complainant said the two vehicles crashed into the group, resulting in two people being injured.
‘One of the victims had to be rushed to hospital by ambulance,” he said in a statement, adding that an investigation has been opened into the case.
A video of the incident has gone viral since last night, showing the two vehicles coming out of a side lane before driving into the people standing by the side of the road, in front of a building.
The vehicles were then seen making a U-turn and going against the flow of traffic before swerving to target the same group.
Ku Mashariman said police will be investigating the case under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, an offence punishable by at least 10 years in jail and a fine upon conviction.
He urged anyone with information on the case to contact the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999, the Brickfields police hotline at 03-2297 9222, or the nearest police station.
