PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a married couple on suspicion of murder after multiple signs of physical abuse were found on their seven-year-old daughter, who died at Kajang Hospital yesterday.

In a statement, Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the parents brought their child to the hospital unconscious at about 1.11am yesterday.

She was pronounced dead in the red zone of the emergency ward.

Naazron said a post-mortem conducted at 12.30pm revealed both old and new injuries on the victim’s body, consistent with physical abuse.

He said the cause of death was determined to be abdominal injuries caused by a blunt object.

“The child’s parents have been arrested to assist in the investigation. We will be requesting for a remand order at the Kajang magistrates’ court tomorrow,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. If convicted, the suspects face the death penalty or a prison term of between 30 and 40 years.

Police have urged anyone with information about the case to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Nur Ayuni Abd Aziz at 016-208 0717.
