When contacted, Harith and the investigating officer confirmed the matter.
“He made threatening remarks against my children via WhatsApp. (It is) related to the (social media) post.”
Meanwhile, the New Straits Times quoted Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain as saying the man would be charged with criminal intimidation.
On Saturday, it was reported that the suspect was nabbed a day after Harith’s manager, his former wife Dr Jezamine Lim, lodged a report.
Razarudin had then said the suspect was being investigated under Sections 506 and 509 of the Penal Code, which deal with criminal intimidation and insulting the modesty of a person, respectively.
Lim had previously revealed that she had received a death threat and abusive messages aimed at their children, prompting the cancellation of Harith’s stand-up comedy show at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.
Harith is under investigation by the police for a satirical post on the use of the word “ham” following controversy over the halal status of sandwiches sold at a convenience store in Universiti Malaya.
He said in a Facebook post on Jan 18 that his faith was shaken after seeing a menu advertising “Ham Sap Coffee” as it contained the word “ham”.
