Govt allocates RM24mil for flood repairs in Sabah, Sarawak

PETALING JAYA:
The federal government will immediately channel over RM24 million to Sabah and Sarawak to repair infrastructure damaged by the ongoing floods.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said RM1,000 in aid will also be channelled to every household in East Malaysia affected by floods, landslides or even fires, Bernama reported.

“It’s said that about RM20 million to RM24 million is needed urgently to repair massive damage, which we have approved,” Anwar, who is also finance minister, was quoted as saying.

According to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), 15,569 people in Sabah and Sarawak have been evacuated to 91 relief centres as of 4pm today.

A total of 24 districts in the two East Malaysian states have been hit by the floods.
