PETALING JAYA:
The federal government has approved an allocation of RM60 million to expand the Sultan Azlan Shah airport’s runway, says Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming.

Nga, the housing and local government minister, said this initiative aims to optimise the airport’s usage and will be carried out in two phases, Sinar Harian reported.

The first phase is ongoing with RM8 million allocated, while the remaining RM52 million will be used for the second phase, he added.

“The expansion of the airport is amazing news, a special Chinese New Year gift from the prime minister to the people of Perak.

“It’s like a dream come true after years of waiting for this project to be realised,” said the Teluk Intan MP.

Nga expressed confidence that the airport upgrade would catalyse economic growth in Perak, particularly allowing products from the state to be exported without going through the Penang International airport or KLIA.

It would also connect Perak to more destinations, including possible new routes to Thailand and Japan.
