Magistrate S Mageswary meted out the sentence on Izzuddin Salim, 31, after he pleaded guilty.
Izzuddin was charged with making the threat via WhatsApp to Harith’s ex-wife, Dr Jezamine Lim, with a picture of their daughter attached in the message.
According to the charge sheet, in a WhatsApp message at 8.50am on Jan 23, Izzuddin warned Lim that “I’m after your daughter” and that “police will protect you but police won’t protect your daughter”.
The charge was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation, which is punishable with imprisonment for up to seven years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Before the sentence was meted out, Izzuddin, who was not represented by a lawyer, apologised to the court and expressed regret over his actions.
“I am really sorry. I ask for a lighter sentence since this is my first offence. I promise I will never repeat my actions,” he said.
Harith, who had attended the proceeding with Lim, said he welcomed the court’s decision and that it was time to “move on” from the episode.
Deputy public prosecutor Sabri Othman prosecuted.
