Tiong also urged politicians and political parties against holding independent fundraising events for fear of scammers posing as politicians to exploit such flood relief efforts.

“All political parties should utilise their platforms to rally the public to donate through official channels, such as the Sarawak disaster management committee. This will ensure that funds and resources for flood relief are effectively managed and genuinely reach those in need,” the Gabungan Parti Sarawak vice-chairman said in a statement.
Tiong, who is MP for Bintulu, the district most affected by the floods, said the district management committee will set up an official account for donations and announce the details soon.
As of 4pm, 13,472 people in 17 districts in Sarawak have evacuated their homes due to floods. In Bintulu, 4,811 victims are currently being sheltered in six relief centres, a slight reduction compared with the 5,014 victims at 6am.
