Ten students were summoned to the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 1.30pm today for their statements to be recorded.
“Is demanding a corruption-free country a crime? Are the voices of the youth so threatening that they must be silenced through investigations and intimidation?” Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah spokesman Zaim Zulkifli told reporters outside the police headquarters.
The students were questioned for more than one-and-a-half hours each.
Zaim said police had asked them 27 questions, but they chose to answer them in court, if charged.
He said the students were being investigated under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 pertaining to failure to provide notice of the gathering within the prescribed period.
Dang Wangi police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman confirmed that the police had recorded the statements of the students, who were accompanied by five lawyers.
However, he did not elaborate on the additional students who were initially reported to have been called in as well.
Previously, rally organiser mobilisation coordinator Tobey Qi-Sean was reported as saying he was given the names of 13 students required to give statements to the police.
Qi-Sean said two of the students are from Universiti Malaysia Sabah and will provide their statements at the Kepayan police headquarters in Kota Kinabalu on Feb 7.
He said that of the 13, four were attendees, while the remaining were part of the organising committee. All four attendees also gave speeches during the rally.
The Jan 25 rally saw more than 200 protesters, mostly university students, turning up outside the Sogo shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur.
