KANGAR:
Police have arrested a woman suspected of abandoning a baby girl found in a plastic bag lined with a sarong in front of a house in Simpang Empat near here on Jan 19.

Kangar police chief Yusharifuddin Yusop said the woman, a 29-year-old restaurant assistant, was detained at 2.55am today.

He said she lives with her four young children, while her husband is currently in a drug rehabilitation centre. She was believed to have given birth to the baby on her own in a toilet at a house in Simpang Empat at about 6.30pm on Jan 18.

“At about 4.30am the next day, she is believed to have gone to a restaurant in Kampung Rama to abandon the baby, travelling in a car belonging to a friend,” he said in a statement tonight.

The woman has been remanded for four days. Yusharifuddin previously said the baby was in good health.
