MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki was quoted by the New Straits Times as saying the suspect was remanded for two days to assist in the probe but was later released after he complained of feeling unwell.
“We immediately referred him to a doctor, who confirmed that he had blockages in his heart.”
Azam also hinted that the questioning of Ismail would not likely end anytime soon.
“I cannot predict when our investigators will conclude the process, but it will take a few more sessions.”
“As for prosecution, we are still in the statement-taking phase and need to speak to several other individuals before completing the investigation.”
Ismail is expected to be questioned for the sixth time tomorrow.
MACC is investigating the discovery of about RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold bars worth millions of ringgit, all of which were seized in raids at the residences of four officers and three other premises believed to be “safe houses”.
Apart from Ismail, the anti-graft agency is also probing four of his former senior officers.
