PETALING JAYA:
The Kangar sessions court today acquitted the son of former Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli of falsifying claims exceeding RM19,000 without calling for his defence.

Judge Nu’aman Mahmud Zuhudi freed Syafeeq Shukri, 37, after finding that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him, Berita Harian reported.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Fariz Abdul Hamid said a notice of appeal would be filed within 14 days.

In May 2024, Syafeeq claimed trial to submitting false claims for the supply of drinks for the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

He was accused of submitting a government order document worth RM19,505.10 under the name Farid Abdul Hamid for the supply of drinks to Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, despite knowing that it contained false details.

Syafeeq was charged with submitting the claim to an administrative assistant at the district administrative unit of the state secretary’s office, with the intention of misleading her superior on Feb 19, 2024.

The charge was framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a minimum RM10,000 fine, upon conviction.

Syafeeq’s father served as Perlis menteri besar from November 2022 to December last year.
