PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia’s first MotoGP rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah will give his all in his second last premier class race at Sepang International Circuit this weekend.

But the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider admits it will be a tough weekend, having struggled all season long on his bike.

“I’m very happy to arrive at my home GP,” Hafizh said in a message posted on the team’s Instagram page.

“It’s a special weekend and I will do my best. We know we are struggling this year and Sepang is the second last GP race before I go back to Moto2.

“It won’t be easy, but I will give everything I have, similar to last year.

“I want to do this for my fans, family and team, who always support and believe in me.”

Hafizh made the step up to the premier class in 2018 with Tech3, replacing ill German rider Jonas Folger.

He had a good debut season, finishing second in the Rookie of the Year standings, four points behind Italy’s Franco Morbidelli.

The former Petronas Raceline Malaysia rider finished 16th overall on 46 points.

But this year has been one to forget as Hafizh struggled to gel with Tech3’s KTM machine after switching from Yamaha.

He is 23rd with only eight points to his name.

Having scored a point in last week’s race in Australia, Hafizh is eager to stay motivated.

“We will see what we can do, I just want to enjoy riding at Sepang,” added the 25-year-old.

“Australia was good, but we learned we need to improve in the beginning of the race.

“I will keep my motivation high and I can’t wait to enjoy this weekend with everybody.”

The MotoGP season will wrap up in Spain with Valencia GP on Nov 17.
