PORT KLANG: As you approach to board the Genting Dream at the Port Klang Cruise Terminal, prepare to have your breath taken away by its towering beauty.

The majestic Resort World Cruises ship, which made its maiden voyage on June 15, boasts 18 decks, spans over a length of 335m, and can accommodate more than 3,500 passengers.

Weekly, the Genting Dream offers three-night cruises from Port Klang to Penang and Singapore, then back to the point of origin.

Travellers can also opt for a two-night cruise from Port Klang to Singapore, round-trip; or, as an alternative to land or air travel, a one-way cruise between Singapore and Port Klang.

FMT was recently invited by Resorts World Cruises and Tourism Selangor to embark on a three-night cruise from Port Klang to the lovely state of Penang, and then down to Singapore. So, what is it like to stay, eat, and play aboard the Genting Dream?

When it comes to accommodation, guests have nine options to choose from – starting from the cozy Interior Stateroom of about 14 sq m, to the luxurious Palace Villa that spans approximately 224 sq m!

The Balcony Deluxe Stateroom, where FMT was hosted, is a comfortable room fitted with amenities such as a television and a mini fridge.

One highlight is definitely the balcony, a cozy nook where you can relax while taking in the stunning sight of the seemingly endless blue sea.

Eat

With 35 food and beverage outlets located throughout the ship, guests aboard the Genting Dream will certainly be spoiled for choice.

To start your day on a dreamy note, the Dream Dining Lower serves a scrumptious buffet that includes pancakes, eggs, congee, and fruits. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast in this beautiful spot.

For lunch, the Lido dishes up a buffet of international and Asian cuisine, including halal and vegetarian options; and as the sun sets to signal dinnertime, partake of delicious, authentic Chinese cuisine at the Silk Road restaurant.

Other culinary options include Uma Uma for sumptuous Japanese cuisine; the Hot Pot Restaurant (presumably serving its namesake); and the Bistro, where meat lovers can sink their teeth into a juicy steak!

Plus, if you find yourself peckish between meals, fret not – a “snacks corner” will allow you to satisfy your cravings.

Play

Looking to burn some calories after all that lovely food? Take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool complete with water slides, or work out at the gymnasium that is open 24 hours.

Other fun and exciting options include rock-climbing, zip-lining, and bowling – yes, all on board this ship!

Those with children or teens can look forward to them spending time at the arcade or at the Little Dreamers Club, which holds activities for younger ones between the ages of two and 12.

Meanwhile, those looking for a little “me time” can pamper themselves at the Crystal Life Spa, which offers massages, facials, manicures and pedicures for a fee.

For entertainment, head over to the various bars and lounges, or check out the Zodiac Theatre for enthralling performances with a fair share of singing, dancing, and acrobatic stunts.

Other facilities include a prayer room for Muslim passengers, as well as WiFi packages available for purchase so you can stay connected and update your social media with all the stunning sights and sounds before you.

Safety measures

Given the pandemic, some may understandably be concerned about measures onboard the Genting Dream to ensure passengers’ health and wellbeing.

Rest assured “there are safety protocols in place, and our staff are equipped to ensure passengers travel in a safe environment”, Resorts World Cruises president Michael Goh told FMT.

These include regular cleaning of all public areas throughout the day. Air coming into the ship is filtered, and a dedicated ventilation system redirects it out of the vessel to ensure no recirculation of air between cabins.
