PETALING JAYA:
Another shooting incident has taken place in the nation’s capital, this time resulting in a man being shot at least 16 times.

According to a report by Oriental Daily, the killing today took place in front of Setapak Central shopping complex, previously known as Festival City.

The victim was shot around 3.30pm while he was driving to visit a relative.

Star Online said the man was a moneylender, aged 43, and a father of three.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Rusdi Mohd Isa, when asked if the shooting was gangland related, said there was a possibility.

“We have early information on his background of being involved in gangs,” he said.

He added that the victim had a previous arrest record in 2014 and that investigations will explore every avenue.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Amar Singh Ishar Singh said police recovered 18 bullet casings from a 9mm pistol at the crime scene.

He also revealed that out of the 18 shots fired, 12 hit the left side of the car and four the right.

“We have yet to determine the motive for the shooting.”

This is the second such incident to have taken place in the span of one month.

Astro Awani reported that a CCTV recording showed the vehicle stopping at the traffic light and two motorcycles coming up behind the car, with two riders on each motorbike.

The pillion riders then got off and began firing at both sides of the vehicle. The gunmen then fled with their accomplices.

When Astro Awani contacted ACP Rusdi, he confirmed the CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, a friend said the man shot dead at the Jalan Taman Ibu Kota/Jalan Genting Klang junction had just bought a new car after suspecting that he was being followed.

The friend, who refused to be named, said the victim, who had been operating a money changing business for the past 10 years, drove a Toyota Camry previously.

“He bought a new Honda Accord just two weeks ago,” he told Bernama.

On July 6, 32-year-old Renyce Wong Siew Ling, a real estate agent, was also shot dead at Taman OUG, Jalan Klang Lama.

A motorcycle drew up alongside her vehicle and the pillion rider pumped bullets into the front window.

Wong’s daughter, aged eight, seated beside her, was also wounded in the abdomen and had to undergo surgery.

Police made a series of arrests, including the hired gun, said to have been promised RM10,000 for the shooting.

The shooting was believed to be over a RM13 million business deal that did not materialise.
