KUALA LUMPUR:
Congratulating Donald Trump on his “extraordinary” victory, Prime Minister Najib Razak says he looks forward to continuing the good partnership between both nations.

He said in a statement today that in 2014 the US and Malaysia elevated their relationship to a comprehensive partnership and that they were firm allies in the worldwide fight against terrorism and extremism.

He said: “We look forward to continuing this partnership under President-elect Trump. I congratulate him on this extraordinary victory, and look forward to meeting him again soon.”

Donald Trump today defeated Hilary Clinton to be the next president of the United States. In his victory speech, he said he was willing to work with every nation that was willing to work with the US.

Most commentators had predicted that Clinton would win; polls showed that Clinton would give Trump a drubbing.

Noting this, Najib said at almost every turn, media commentators had been proven wrong and the results anticipated by experts had been overturned.

“Donald Trump was considered a distant outsider when his candidacy was first announced. He beat the establishment consensus by winning the Republican nomination, and did so again with his remarkable victory today.”

Najib made an astute observation: Trump’s success shows politicians should never take voters for granted.

He said Trump’s appeal to Americans who had been left behind – those who want to see their government more focused on their interests and welfare, and less embroiled in foreign interventions that proved to be against US interests – had won him the White House.
