Silat teacher jailed 24 years for raping student

He was charged with raping the student in 2011 when she was aged 11 and again in 2013 when she was 13 at a house in Selayang.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A Physical Education teacher was sentenced to 24 years’ jail and 12 strokes of the cane by the Selayang Sessions Court here today for raping his student.

Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar handed down the sentence on Mohd Ezlie Azram Mohammad Khasasi, 38, after finding the teacher guilty on two counts of raping the girl.

Azram was sentenced to 12 years’ jail and six strokes of the cane on each count, to be served consecutively from today.

However, the court allowed a stay of the sentence following a request by Azram’s lawyer to file an appeal at the High Court.

Azram , who is also a silat teacher, was charged with raping the student in 2011 when she was aged 11 and again in 2013 when she was 13.

Both the offences were committed at a house in Selayang here.

The teacher, who is divorced with two children, was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code which provide an imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shahida Wan Omar prosecuted, while Azram was represented by lawyers Dony Abdullah and Farhan Read.
