KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah has proposed the establishment of an independent committee comprising retired high-level officials to monitor the work of serving top officials including the inspector-general of police to ensure they do their job with integrity.

The party’s deputy president, Salahuddin Ayub, said the committee would comprise former attorney-generals and other officials with a legal background.

He said the retired officials must have the knowledge and influence to make their voices heard on issues and during crises that affect the entire country.

“When you retire with titles, it doesn’t mean you are free of your responsibilities to serve the country,” he told a media conference at Amanah headquarters here today.

“The composition should be around 15 individuals who are not linked to any political parties.”

Salahuddin said Amanah would bring the proposal to the next Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council meeting before announcing the names of the proposed committee.

Once approved by the council, Amanah would take the proposal to Parliament,” he said.

Salahuddin said the committee would make recommendations on national issues and call up government officials who were seen as complacent in their jobs.
